The German watchmaker Glashütte Original enriches his range of mechanical masterpieces with a new chronograph, which was designed and manufactured entirely in his own manufacture in Glashütte. As a fascinating example of glash nut design, the Senator Chronograph Panoramadatum is distinguished by the new caliber 37-01; A precise column wheel chronograph with flyback function.
The elegant timepiece is presented in two versions; In a platinum version with a hand-silvered dial as well as in a red gold version with silver-lacquered dial. Unlimited and provided with the classic dial design of the senator line, both timepieces are part of the "Art & Technology" column of the manufactory.
The art of the chronograph
Glashütte Original embodies the tradition of fine glass watchmaking, which dates back to 1845. The Saxon manufactory has long been known for its extraordinary timepieces, including masterfully designed chronographs. The new caliber 37-01 is another movement from Glashütte Original, which was designed specifically as a chronograph movement. With this caliber, the designers have now succeeded in combining the most important functions and combining them in a watch of a comfortable size: central stop, 30-minute and 12-hour counter with flyback mechanism, small second, gear reserve indicator ( 70 hours) as well as Glashütte Originals impressive panorama date.
Compared to other and more complex designs, the 4-Hz automatic unit with column-mounted gear is designed to be as simple and compact as possible. With its caliber diameter of 31.6 mm, its stable and compact design and low susceptibility, this chronograph is a precise, reliable and stylish companion.
Elegance and aesthetics in two versions
The harmonious elegance and completed aesthetics of the dial give the Senator Chronograph Panoramadatum a classic and balanced face. The new timepiece from the Haus Glashütte Original is available in two versions:
The first version impresses with its silvery-grained lacquered dial with black railway minuterie and black Roman numerals, which is framed by a polished-satined 18 karat rose gold case.
The second variant features a silver-colored dial with a railway minutiae, Roman numerals and a circulating tachymeter scale, refined by hand in traditional technology. The dial is made of gold and carefully engraved by laser. The engravings are then painted black and fired in the oven. The dial thus prepared is finally silver-plated; An elaborate process in which fine silver powder, salt and water are rubbed onto the dial in a perfectly matched mixture with a brush to obtain a beautiful, silver glossy surface. This gives the dial a fine and evenly shimmering structure. Due to the high proportion of manual work, each dial is unique.
The Senator Chronograph Panoramadatum is characterized by the typically symmetrical harmony of the Senator line, which is both classical and contemporary at the same time. On the dial, the elegant 12-hour counter presents itself at 12 o'clock, while the panoramic date is displayed with black digits on ivory-colored ground and is located in the middle of the lower part of the dial. The small seconds display also includes the gear reserve indicator and is positioned at 9 o'clock, while the 30-minute counter is at 3 o'clock in the small seconds. All hands are made of blued steel, the dial is framed by a sleek elegant bezel and a polished and frosted case made of either platinum or red gold.
The work of the new chronograph presents a simplified column-wheel mechanism that uses fewer parts than its predecessors. The lift is carried out by a rotor that pulls on both sides, the gear reserve of 70 hours is ensured by a single spring house. The regulation is made by means of four gold screws on the unrest; The absence of a regulation on the spring ensures that the mechanism runs continuously over a long period, resulting in high precision. The start and stop functions of the chronograph are activated by a pusher located at the top right of the case. The flyback mechanism is triggered by the pusher at the bottom left. The flyback button closes the chronograph stop and the three chronograph hands jump to zero.
Exquisite finishing
A special sapphire glass back gives the wearer a glimpse into the new caliber 37-01, which is finished according to the requirements of Glashütte Original. Typical features of Glashütte watchmaking, such as glued edges, polished steel parts, blued screws and the Glashütter three-quarter plate with stripes are found here as well as a skeletal rotor with a 21-carat gold flywheel and a characteristic double-G logo. The Platinum version of the Senator Chronograph Panoramadatum features a dark blue Louisiana alligator leather strap with a folding clasp made of platinum for the perfect hold on the wrist. The red gold version is equipped with a matt black Louisiana alligator leather strap as well as a folding clasp made of 18 carat red gold.
